WHAT ARE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIRS?

Science and Engineering Fairs are an organized exhibition of work done which follows specific rules and guidelines. The students compete through their exhibits and demonstrations of projects to the judges and public.

The exhibit represents a chosen category, judged by either junior/senior division. The exhibits will have specific designations such as: Biology, Chemistry, Environment, Mathematics, Engineering, and Physical Science.

Local classroom and school fairs are the first step in the Pathway. Top 3 exhibits may wish to participate at other fairs. Consider each fair a challenge to improve your project under your teacher's supervision.

Students desiring to participate in the Sequence of Fairs might consider either of the following to progress to higher competition.

**Recommended for students grades 4-8. (Could also be considered for high school)

A. Develop project exhibit for local school fair of late winter or early spring. If in top five exhibits of class then prepare exhibit for the next fair in sequence.

B. Exhibit at the Science Fair of the Maricopa County Fair. If in the top five exhibits of class then prepare for the next fair in the sequence. Prepare to keep exhibit over summer to update for a fall exhibit at the State Fair.

C. Maintain exhibit over summer. Prepare for display at YES competition of the Arizona State Fair.

D. The Central Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair at ASU is the highest level of competition for Science Fairs in the greater Phoenix area.

** Recommended for High School Students Grades 9-12.

A. Either develop your new project or update the last one developed after January I of current year.

B . All participants of CARSEF may wish to enter the next competition.

C. The Science Fair of the Maricopa County Fair is the last local competition of the current school year. If however, this is your first entry in the sequence of competitions and your exhibit is in the top five exhibits of the class then you may wish to maintain/keep your project exhibit over the summer to start the year by entering the Young Engineers and Scientists competition of the Arizona State Fair.
